The idea of the residual hearing preservation - from theory to praxis
As the implant technologies were perfected and knowledge and experience of surgeons and rehabilitation specialists grew, the criteria of selecting patients for cochlear implantation changes. Increasingly younger children are considered eligible for this method of treatment, and not only those suffering from the total deafness, but also those who have somewhat better residual hearing. Implementation of program of the residual hearing preservation was an enormous challenge. Appreciating the work of scientists who developed that program, it is necessary to give credit to patients and their families, parents and caretakers who gave us their trust. Thanks to them we have been able develop new ideas - explains Prof. Henryk Skarżyński.
